Acquire Deal Flow: 3 Content Sites, 3 Aged Domains (plus more)

In this week’s picks we have: 2 On-Market Sites on Flippa, 1 Off-Market Site making over $6K/m profit, 3 On-Market Aged Domains on Odys, 1 Off-Market Domain and a bonus Off-Market Course Site

Hey there 👋,

Before we get to this week’s top picks, it would be great to do a couple of polls. The first will help me better pick sites and domains that best match your interest:

And the second will help me better match content site deal size:

New Flippa Listings

Since last week, there were 15 new content site listings on Flippa earning > $100/m with verified traffic (GA integration) over 2 years in age:

Small content sites ($100/m to $500/m in profit) - currently 69 listings, 11 new listings (10 auction, 1 classified)

Medium content sites ($500/m-$5K/m in profit) - currently 97 listings, 2 new listings (2 auction, 0 classified)

Large content sites (over $5K/m in profit) - currently 22 listings, 2 new listings (1 auction, 1 classified)

This Week’s Flippa Picks

Please view this as initial screening - I do not check any revenue / profit claimed and am not recommending you should acquire these assets. Do you own due diligence and/or buy DD on Flippa or Centurica.

For my criteria and terminology see this post.

If you want further assistance with your acquisition, you can book a micro-consulting call with me on Clarity, details at ACQUIRE.GG.

As a Flippa affiliate, I earn a % of what Flippa earns from listings sold.

truemusichelper.com - $2,905 asking price, $3,500 reserve (17 hours left)

Search traffic has been trending back down, but even based off last month’s claimed profit of $91 from Amazon Associates (and not L12M average), the reserve price puts it at a reasonable 35x. Top page 17% search traffic according to Semrush, 131 pages in google index.

Patey Easy Upside

  • Add informational content to reduce Google risk - top pages showing in Semrush are all buyer guides (commercial) - and then

  • Ad Ezoic ads (currently just Amazon for monetization)

  • Add affiliate boxes in sidebar (only posts showing currently)

BeautifiedDesigns.com - $49,321 asking price (Joe Burrill broker)

Search traffic and profit has been on a decline but looks to be bottoming, October revenue from Mediaving / Amazon Associates is claimed to be $1,096 which puts the asking price at exactly 45x monthly profit. These multiples were common 6 months ago, but with the current situation of less buyer liquidity, a lower offer could be accepted, especially as the new owner will not quality for Mediavine. Top page brings in 12% search traffic according to Semrush, but it’s mostly a lot of images. 205 pages in google index.

Patey Upside Wins

  • Improve CRO on product review pages - not seeing any comparison tables or CTA buttons, just linked up product images to Amazon

  • Add table of contents to articles

  • Look to add non-Amazon affiliate programs (or own digital products), show offers in sidebar and add an exit popup

Off-Market Content Site

The content site below was submitted to be featured. I charge no listing / success fee and do not act as a broker.

Niche: Pets

Monetization claimed: AdThrive (75%), Amazon Associates (7%), Affiliate (18%)

Profit claimed: L12M: $4897, L9M: $5284, L6M: $5797, L3M: $6277

Ubersuggest: (I find it more accurate than Semrush now)

Search traffic looks to be trending up in line with profit. Top page bringing in just over 3%, top 10 pages are informational. Over 1000 pages in google index.

Patey Upside Wins

  • Content audit - remove pages that don’t get traffic / have links

  • See if replacing Google vignette ads with popup affiliate offer can increase RPM

  • Improve site speed (gets a D on GTmetrix)

Seller Upside Wins

Joining new affiliate programs and CRO such as adding comparison tables in review articles. Linkbuilding is also something that could be done better, there are a lot of articles on the site but not all of them rank yet.

On-Market Aged Domains

Last week I had a great call with Alex, the co-founder and CEO of Odys and no longer feel it necessary to do my own DD investigation into aged domains as their process is so thorough. But, if you want to see a full breakdown I did on one of their domains, check out this newsletter.

So going forward I’m just going to be picking great names and how I’d build out on them.

SomePrints.com on Odys - $4,110

This is a 7 year old domain with 3 high authority links from adobe.com, smashingmagazine.com and glamour.com.

I had a small Shopify print business called ipanoramaprints.com from 2012 to 2016 when sold on Empire Flippers. I was charging anywhere from $49 to $200 to print people’s panorama photos they took on an iPhone and then had two print companies (one in UK and one in US), to print and post to the customer (dropship). I was actually very fond of this business, and thought it had quite a bit of upside. Indeed, when I was looking for local printers in my then hometown in the UK, I met up with a local company who stole the idea and immediately set up their own to compete - check out printpanoramics.co.uk to see how you could build out a product offering!

I know this newsletter is about content businesses, but I think that someprints.com is a decent brand and 2-word .com domain for an ecommerce play here. Indeed, if you look at just premium / brand name marketplaces such as brandbucket.com or squadhelp.com, you can see them charging just as much if not more for domains with no SEO benefit.

Indeed, Brandbucket charges from $3K up to $42K for similar names, and as you can see on Squadhelp (below), similar names have prices from $2K to $18K:

So regardless if you were to build out on it, someprints.com could be a decent domain investment (with link equity as a bonus).

Other recent domains on Odys I liked

Former weekly kickstarter deals email site, with authority links from smartpassiveincome.com, entrepreneur.com and kickstarter.com itself. I’d create content to rank for easier keywords to kickstart the site (pun intended):

And then funnel organic traffic (and any referral traffic) into building a new weekly deals email (sound familiar?!) where you could go wider than just crowdfunding, could cover new Flippa Invest opportunities for example!

I’d turn this former art dealer site into an authority site covering the NFT art world, featuring the top news stories in the space, and curating top NFT collections and up-and-coming artists. Again, start with low-hanging keywords:

And then I’d use the site to build a Substack newsletter such as:

Off-Market Domains

cl.gg

Patey says

You know me me, I love a .gg

Seller says

There are a series of games in the Clash universe: Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, Clash Mini, Clash Quest, etc.. one idea was to create content sites or stats tracking tools around those and use the domain for it. Open to offers.

BONUS: Off-Market Course Site

TTM Revenue: $254K (claimed)

TTM Profit: $193K (claimed)

Price: Open to offers

Seller says

We got in early with Udemy and have some of the highest organic-ranked business/marketing courses with over 450,000 students. We do zero marketing for the digital marketing agency and get 100% of our advertising clients from the Udemy courses (e.g. students take the Facebook Ads course and realize it is difficult, so they contact us via our website). 80% of the revenue is from course sales and 20% is from the digital marketing agency.

I would promote our digital marketing agency in the courses, create new courses to launch to the 450,000+ students on Udemy, promote our website 6x/mo via Udemy email marketing, and run retargeting ads to capture students off of Udemy and direct them to our Teachable hosted courses.

🗣️ Patey Recommends

Here are platforms, services and products that I have personally used or know the founder/team and can recommend.

Flippa - the largest marketplace for buying and selling websites

Odys - premium aged domain marketplace

Namecheap - where I hand register web2 (and now web3) domains

Centurica - premium due diligence services

Content at Scale - one click AI content that’s good enough to publish (you get a 20% boost in credits with this link)

Human Proof Designs - buy ready made sites and a whole heap of operational services

WorkHero - managing wordpress sucks, use WorkHero so you don’t have to

Niche Site Metrics - find low competition niches based on actual data

That’s it for this week’s content site picks. If you’ve not yet subscribed here’s the CTA for you:

Until next week, come follow me on twitter or book a micro-consulting call with me.

Cheers!
