Acquire Deal Flow: 3 Websites, 3 Aged & 3 Brandable Domains

3 content site picks from Flippa, from a $3K auction reserve, up to a $5M BIN. Plus aged and brandable domains on Odys, Godaddy and Namejet, to build sites out on.

Hey there đź‘‹,

In this week’s newsletter, we have 3 content site picks from Flippa, from a $3K auction reserve, up to a $5M BIN. Plus aged and brandable domains on Odys, Godaddy and Namejet, to build sites out on.

The results are in from last week’s newsletter, and it looks as if I’ve going to bias to featuring more tech / business / software content sites and domains:

And this one surprised me, with the majority of subscribers looking for sub $20K acquisitions, although 14% are in the low to mid-six-figure range, which based off my 1450 subscribers is still a very healthy 200+ acquirers:

New Flippa Listings

Since last week, there were 18 new content site listings on Flippa (+3 on last week) earning > $100/m with verified traffic (GA integration) over 2 years in age:

Small content sites ($100/m to $500/m in profit) - currently 68 listings, 9 new listings (8 auction, 1 classified)

Medium content sites ($500/m-$5K/m in profit) - currently 99 listings, 8 new listings (6 auction, 2 classified)

Large content sites (over $5K/m in profit) - currently 20 listings, 1 new listings (0 auction, 1 classified)

This Week’s Flippa Picks

Please view this as initial screening - I do not check any revenue / profit claimed and am not recommending you should acquire these assets. Do you own due diligence and/or buy DD on Flippa or Centurica.

If you want further assistance with your acquisition, you can book a micro-consulting call with me on Clarity, details at ACQUIRE.GG.

Up to now, I’ve featured basic due diligence on sites, which you can see here, here, here and especially here (most detailed as only one site in that newsletter).

But in the interest of fitting in more deals, going forward I’m just going to be adding a screenshot from Ubersuggest and my upside wins.

The sites I feature pass this criteria (unless I mention otherwise).

As a Flippa affiliate, I earn a % of what Flippa earns from listings sold.

travellin-lite.com.au - $4,976 reserve (25 days left)

Traffic and revenue have fallen over the last 12 months but it looks to have bottomed, ticking up over the last month earning $373, making the reserve price just 13x monthly profit multiple. But as this is an auction, anything can happen.

Upside Wins

  • Implement display ads - currently it’s just affiliate

  • Improve CRO on comparison tables - make them mobile responsive, improve small CTAs

  • Link product review images to Amazon / affiliate (rather than currently Pinterest)

toystokids.com - $3,210 reserve (29 days left)

Search traffic looks to have fallen off a cliff, but also looks to have stabilized over the last couple of months. The Flippa listing is actually showing an increase in revenue in October over September, now at $147, which puts the reserve price at a 22x monthly profit multiple.

Upside Wins

  • Implement display ads - currently looks like just Amazon associates

  • Decent CRO on product review pages (such as this one) in terms of pros and cons, but lacking a comparison table near the top

  • Add EAT such as author boxes and social profiles (which currently don’t link to anything in the footer), and improve about page

techengage.com - Auction with 25 days left (BIN $4,900,000)

I don’t know what the reserve price is as am no longer at Flippa (no more super admin access), but the BIN price puts it at 145x monthly profit multiple… But it does come with its own app, a full array of social accounts, some with large followings (but need to do DD on them), a trademark and a large number of related domains. This is on top of a decent 2 word .com which has very high domain authority.

Site looks like may have been hit by the July 2022 product reviews Google update but has recovered somewhat, now 50% at its peak. However, looking at the listing description, it mentions that brands pay to be featured, so would need to look into whether that translates into dofollow links.

Upside Wins

  • Improve website design / theme

  • CRO opportunities on product pages (example): improve CTA copy (currently “Buy on Amazon”) and make them bigger / stand out. No comparison tables, just a top 5 bullet point box.

  • Add ads - with this much traffic you could apply to Mediavine, or simply use Ezoic.

  • Content audit - over 2500 pages in Google index

Aged Domains

RewindReframe.org on Odys - $2,920

I’ve been getting trademark advice from Revision Legal to see whether I should register “ACQUIRE.GG” for this newsletter. Based on the awesome knock-out search report they generated, it appears as if it would be unlikely to be granted, but if it was, it would also be weak and very hard to enforce. So I’m not going to apply.

But having learned so much, on this domain I agree with Odys’ Monetization Angle of building out an authority site covering legal matters, but I’d lean into legal issues for entrepreneurs, such as trademarks, and then set up lead generation deals with service providers.

These are the kind of low competition keywords I’d go after:

AverageBro.com on Odys - $4,060

I’m a big fan of the The Average Joe newsletter which this reminded me of. But rather than focus on investing, I’d use the high authority links to rank for “bro science” low-competition type keywords:

And then ad Ezoic, and funnel traffic into an entertainment Substack newsletter.

UpThePosh.com on Odys - $3,540

I’m not into football (soccer), but I do know (as used to live nearby) that Peterborough FC are referred to as "The Posh”, which is what the site used to be about.

It’s a bad macro economic outlook, but the 1% of the 1% aren’t affected, so I’d build out an affiliate site linking to high-ticket / top-end (posh) sports gear, going for low competition luxury keywords, such as with skiing:

Brandable Domains

I pick brandable domain names at auction that stand out to me.

AmazingMint.com on Godaddy

Closing in < 2 hours time, could be used for NFTs, in a similar way to premint.xyz

nogh.com on Godaddy

2 hours left, I paid $300 for my NGUT.com I bought on DNWE.com at wholesale a couple of years ago, but would expect this to go for more.

RoadBikes.com on Namejet

Closes in 2 days, great EMD for a review site. The plural version is better than the singular in my opinion, but you may be able to pick up roadbike.com (on an Afternic lander) for less than the $25,001 - $50,000 reserve range.

🗣️ Patey Recommends

Here are platforms, services and products that I have personally used or know the founder/team and can recommend.

Flippa - the largest marketplace for buying and selling websites

Odys - premium aged domain marketplace

Namecheap - where I hand register web2 (and now web3) domains

Centurica - premium due diligence services

Content at Scale - one click AI content that’s good enough to publish (you get a 20% boost in credits with this link)

Human Proof Designs - buy ready made sites and a whole heap of operational services

WorkHero - managing wordpress sucks, use WorkHero so you don’t have to

Niche Site Metrics - find low competition niches based on actual data

That’s it for this week’s content site picks. If you’ve not yet subscribed to this deal flow newsletter, you can do so here:
