đź’§Dropping Domains (Tue, Feb. 7)

This week, Sean Markey picks the top SEO and brandable domains on Godaddy, for building websites out on

Hello again, to this weekly email covering the most interesting domains that will be dropping this week.

In case we haven’t met: I’m Sean, an expert positioned at the crossroads of domains and SEO. I have an SEO newsletter called Rank Theory that’s free and that you should totally sign up for. I write longform, thoughtful SEO content. Next newsletter drops soon.

I mentioned on Twitter that I would share my .ai auction acquisition with this list:

And here it is:

wednesday.ai

As branding goes…

days of the week: 10/10

months of the year: 20/10

Not gonna lie: I love the goth-y vibes of that brand in relation to the Addams Family character (but it has no real bearing on the value of the brand to others or to a potential buyer, just something I personally like).

If you missed the .AI auctions you can find next month (and every month) at auction.whois.ai. The new batch of expiring names drop on the 27th, and the auctions go on for about 2 weeks or so.

Here are the interesting domains dropping this week…

GoDaddy

All of these names are available at auctions.godaddy.com, just go there and search. None of this is financial advice, I am not a financial advisor or lawyer I’m barely a real person. Do your due diligence before buying. Thank you.

FilmCrew.com

No SEO authority here, just a solid brand if you were looking to build out a site in the film/media/TV space. Not gonna be easy on your wallet though…

Semantik.com

Not quite how you spell “semantic,” but it’s such a strong SEO-related brand, I think it can work once you get a bit of traction—you won’t need to spell it for people to know what you’re talking about (but when people word-of-mouth your brand, they’ll have to spell it every time: that’s the downside. But it doesn’t—you can have a drop dead inadvisable brand name and still find success: see Ahrefs or Odys for examples).

This is a 10/10 SEO tool or agency name that deals primarily with content.

Or if you are a domain investor type, this is the best version of a brand that other people have listed for fairly reasonable sums:

SFLuxe.net

Used to be: a site about luxury living in the world’s most over-priced city (well, top 10 at least).

Has some solid SEO juice, DR 30-something and ranking for one, lone keyword. The brand isn’t great and it’s on a .net, but if you’re looking to build something either in the luxury or SF space, this probably won’t be a bad acquisition.

TheNewPotato.com

Potato really isn’t… you know, a word that conjures a lot of positive sentiment.

You could call someone a potato as an insult and it’d be a fairly solid burn.

They are generally cheap and plentiful, which could be good if you’re selling something of the same.

I guess on the plus side, they DID keep Matt Damon alive on Mars for several months, so ok, they’ve got that going for them…

Used to be some kind of alkaline-focused diet site?

Solid authority at DR 57, and still ranking for hundreds of KWs. Possibly a decent pick-up, but do your own due diligence (as always).

AnimesOnlineGames.com

DR 34, still ranking for some keywords.

Fairly spammy name, though. I wouldn’t buy this unless you really know what you’re doing (and even THEN…).

DailyRotten.com

DR 31, not ranking for any keywords, but it’s got some really nice links.

Plus I think the brand is fairly memorable, so could be a good pickup esp. if you’re going to hit it with a ton of content. Not a great acquisition if you’re not posting daily IMO…

Well, that’s it for this week. There are less good domains than usual to write about, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.

Let me know if you end up grabbing one of these names.

Otherwise: have a great week and definitely sign up for my SEO list if you haven’t, I need a high subscriber count to give meaning to my otherwise vastly meaningless life—I live in the shallow end of the pool and I’m not afraid to say it.

Best,
