Hey there 👋

Happy Monday!

It looks like we are getting more and more women in newsletters based on last week’s poll; love it.

NEWSLETTER ACQUISITION TIP

Evaluate content and brand value

It's important to understand what kind of content drives the newsletter’s growth and whether that can continue after your purchase.

1. Niche and positioning
Is the newsletter in a specific, defensible niche with room to grow, or is it in a crowded space where anyone could start competing tomorrow? Look for clear differentiation, such as a strong editorial voice, unique insights, or original research.

2. Creator dependency
If a newsletter is tied to the creator's personality, readers may be there for the writer and not the topic. If the seller hasn't taken steps to distance their personal brand from the letter, you’ll need a plan to manage that change. Ask whether the brand has potential as a standalone identity or if it’s essentially “one person’s thoughts.”

3. Brand equity
Search for mentions, backlinks, or media coverage. Check if other creators, journalists, or companies refer to the newsletter. A strong reputation adds value that doesn’t show up in subscriber numbers alone.

NEWSLETTER MONETIZATION TIP

Monetize your data

You're probably sitting on a pile of first-party data that you could turn into income.

If you run polls or surveys in your newsletter, try aggregating the insights and selling a short “pulse” summary for $50 to $100.

A good pulse summary answers three simple questions:

  • What are people doing?

  • What is changing compared to before?

  • Why should this matter to me?

Brands that want to understand and know more about your niche audience will pay for inside info they can't find anywhere else.

Example: You could survey SaaS founders and share how they are testing onboarding flows this quarter. Or poll e-commerce operators and break down where retention methods are working and where they are falling flat.

You are not selling emails or personal responses, but access to the insights.

Do you like this idea? Reply with a 'YES' or 'NO' so I know if you want more tips like this–or not 😀

Until next week, keep building. 💪
